Latest Success Story

One notable success story in the fight against HIV is the significant reduction in mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of the virus. Through the implementation of prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) programs, tremendous progress has been made in preventing HIV transmission from mothers to their babies.

In the early years of the HIV epidemic, the risk of MTCT was extremely high, with up to 40% of infants born to HIV-positive mothers becoming infected. However, with advancements in medical knowledge and access to antiretroviral therapy (ART), the risk of MTCT has been dramatically reduced.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has set ambitious targets for PMTCT, aiming to eliminate MTCT of HIV by 2030. Many countries have made significant strides towards this goal, with some even achieving virtual elimination of MTCT.
